Job # CC-79-11-GS Teacher Assistant - Under the supervision of the Teacher, the Teacher Assistant I am responsible for helping the Teacher adhere to the guidelines of the Department of Health and Human Services, Head Start Education Performance Standards, and for helping assure the quality of developmental experience received by the children. The Teacher Assistant I will be responsible for the management of the classroom as the Acting-Teacher in the absence of the teacher, providing they meet the State of Illinois Day Care Licensing Standards. Qualifications are as followed: Must be a least 18 years old. Must have a high school diploma or a equivalency certificate (GED). During the first year of employment, complete a minimum of six (6) college credit hours in Child Development, with a minimum of a "C" grade or better and participate in CDA training program and receive satisfactory progress reports. Complete and acquire the CDA credential within the second year of employment for employees who are employed in the Head Start Program. Staffs employed in the Early Head Start Program are required to complete and obtain the CDA credential within 12 months of employment. Qualifications are as followed: Bachelor’s Degree in human services or related field of study. One year of direct service in crisis intervention or counseling is required. Must be fluent in written English to effectively communicate with clients and staff.
