Foster Grandparent Program

Offering adults, age 55 and over, an opportunity to work with children with special needs at local area schools, Head Start sites, daycare and preschool sites.  Foster Grandparents earn a modest tax-free stipend and generally work about 20 hours per week.

Offering trained and caring professionals to help determine services most needed to stop abuse, protect the person who has suffered the abuse, and assist the individual in the healing process.  Staff also provide intervention in getting help for the abuser.

Offering frail, older adults and their families assistance as they assess the need for care and coordinate an overall plan of service to maximize the older person's independence in the home.  Multiple domains of the seniors life are evaluated including: need for assistance with personal care, housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation, overall environment and emotional well-being.  The primary goal of the assessment process is linking the senior with services and benefits that help maintain their dignity and independence.

~Serving Kankakee County

Offering opportunities for caregiver assistance through in-person, by phone or e-mail information and referral, caregiver counseling, monthly support groups and annual educational for caregiver and for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.  Services also include linkage to funding for respite, gap-filling and legal assistance.  Monthly support group meets 1st Wednesday of every month from noon - 1:15 p.m. and a light lunch is provided.
